There are several federal grants for individuals offered in every state of America. This federal grant is a monetary assistance given to a person which carries out some charitable works. The person granted with these kind of assistance need to fulfil certain requirements and obligations in order to avoid legal repercussions. Usually, this grant is awarded to non-profit agencies, state or organizations that are exempted to tax under the Internal Revenue Service tax code. If one person is interested to do some charity works in their neighbourhood, he or she must form a 501C3 non-profit corporation before she or he is qualified to apply for a federal grant.
Types of Federal Grants for individuals
Different types of federal grants for individuals are often offered to organizations in order for that organization to help out individuals in need.
- Block Grants are federal grants provided to the state or local governments for use in general purpose. Examples would be Community Development Block Grant, Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Services Block Grant and Local Law Enforcement Block Grant. This grant typically targets organizations who give financial assistance to certain individuals.
- Project Grants are federal grants for individuals given by the government to fund researches. An individual must be able to pass certain qualifications before he or she applies for the grant. Medical researches are an example of this grant and are usually good for three years.
- Formula grants are provided as dictated by the law. Example of this is Aid to Families with Dependent Children where there is financial assistance to children whose family has low or no income.
- Categorical grants are spent for defined purposes and recipients must match a portion of the federal funds. Example would be the Head Start Program that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.

There are many programs offered by the federal grant agencies which falls under the category of housing, agriculture, business, food, health, education, transportation, employment training and environment to name a few. Through the different federal grants for individuals, people are now being assisted with their financial needs.
